I considered beginning today’s photo blog post by alluding to the April showers bring…. yet suffice it to say that it has been raining here in Annapolis Maryland today, which of course is great for both flowers as well as trees. Knowing that it was going to be a wet day for photography I dressed accordingly while also putting my camera in a kind of custom configured plastic bag, in order to keep it somewhat dry in the event that I came across an inspiring setting to photograph – rain or not.

Starting on Market Space I set off hoping to come across groups of colorful wet flowers or bushes, or at least that was my original creative intent. Upon reaching the top of Fleet Street I had found myself paying more attention to the occasional sheets of rainfall cascading down the asphalt in front of me then my surroundings, anyway there aren’t many floral displays along this particular Historic District Street. Having begun to pay attention once again to my immediate surroundings I caught sight of an oh so familiar street mural on the southwest side of the Chez Amis Bed and Breakfast, that itself seemed to be even more vivid looking in the rain.

Not only was the mural projecting deeper colors but for once there wasn’t a vehicle parked on East Street in front of the Tierney’s B&B corner door, a photographic occasion not to be ignored for sure. With my camera in its improvised plastic cocoon I wandered back and forth at the top of the street trying to find just the right perspective to capture the entire side of the building, including its mural, while at the same time avoiding an intransigent utility pole that has always hampered my ability to photograph this tightly spaced urban intersection.

Finally after a few false starts I was able to squeeze off a couple of clicks on the camera’s shutter release and feeling that surely there was a good photograph or two to be had among the group. Ah but then I realized that a more closeup perspective of the mural itself was also in order.

With that I readjusted not only my position on the street but my overall perspective as well and managed to capture the mural in what I believed to be in a bit more detail.

As an aside this street mural has been here on this same wall for years having been created for the inn’s owners at the time. Actually the then owners made application to the City of Annapolis in order for this mural to be appointed on the building’s stucco covered wall. While perhaps it has been one of the more photographed street murals in the City in years past, for that I certainly know for I tend to receive at least a couple of emails a month from individuals, having seen my previous photographs of it, inquiring as to its location so that they can photograph it as well.

Yes even on a rainy Saturday art and nature seemingly make themselves available to be photographed, as long as if the photographer is receptive to getting a little wet in the process of doing so.

Stay dry and have a pleasant weekend,

Glenn
