I found myself enthralled by the elegant details of this 1810 Georgian and Federal influenced door surround in the Historic District earlier today. Even having already planned to shoot shoreline scenery during today’s walk in Annapolis, of which I eventually did, the mixture of 18th and 19th century architectural elements, along with the house’s grey, white and black colors, soon had me seeking out an optimum perspective in which to take a photograph or two.

A closer examination of the door surround highlights the exceptional craftsmanship inside the pediment, including the same dentil pattern having been incorporated into the upper sections of the protruding flanking door columns. In addition note that within the pediment is a leaded glass fan style transom, certainly a more Georgian detail.

This mixture of Georgian and Federal styles featured across the house’s facade is seemingly unique for early 19th century City architecture, although there are also signs of Greek Revival influences as well.

Enjoy the rest of the day,

Glenn
