Prince George Street at Wayman Alley

Today’s photograph came as the result of a number of things taking place at the same time with the first one being an absence of any vehicles parked in front of this Prince George Street house, something that I never experienced before in my years of walking the streets of Annapolis.

The second contributing factor that lead to today’s photograph was that I located a good vantage point, which in turn served to minimize the visual clutter of the jungle like density of utility wires running the length of this fairly narrow Historic District street.

It can also be said that timing was the final factor in the taking this photograph for even though I began today’s walk under a grey cloudy sky, by the time I made my way up Wayman’s Alley from Pinkney Street it had begun to rain, hence the urgency for the photograph.

So with all of that aside let me describe this residence as a two bay two story circa 1880 Federal influenced freestanding townhouse with both a basement and finished attic, sans any dormers though. While the date of the house’s construction is attributed to the 1880s additional property records suggest that a house was located on this same lot, possibly in the 1840s, although it has never been established if the two are the same.

One may perhaps note the period metal street and alley signs set to the right of the first floor alley side window’s upper sash, as well as just around the corner.

Well all in all things worked out good for me today for I did not get that wet while I can now cross this late 19th century house off my list of places to photograph in the City.

Have a good weekend,

Glenn
